Dr. Bukara earned his medical degree from the Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda and got his post-graduate orthopaedic training and Master’s degree from Witswatersrand University in South Africa. He did a knee surgery fellowship training at the Linksfield Hospital Johannesburg, South Africa.
Dr. Bukara specializes in sports medicine, particularly in knee surgery and traumatology. He also has a special interest in arthroplasty.
Dr. Bukara is Consultant and Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at King Faisal Hospital, Kigali. He is currently the director of Peri-Operative and Critical Care at King Faisal Hospital Orthopaedic Department.
Dr. Bukara is Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Health Science of the University of Rwanda where he teaches undergraduate and post graduate students.
Currently Dr. Bukara is the National Chair of AO Non-Operative Course which runs in low-income countries like Rwanda where there are very few orthopaedic surgeons. The course is designed is to train medical professionals, like nurses, paramedics and medical officers, on non-operative fracture management before the patients are transferred for further treatment.
Dr. Bukara is a very active member of the Rwanda Orthopaedic Association and a member of East African Association of Arthroscopic Surgeons.
As a 2017 AAOS International Scholar, Dr. Bukara will attend the Fracture of the pelvis and Acetabulum course in the Orthopaedic Learning Center and will observe with Dr. Richard Gayle at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Mountain View, California.
